“Show me scripture to support that its good to debate. the Lord did that Himself but He was always right for He wrote His words in scripture” Nick
Dear brother,
Do you suggest that a debate would be an unchristian thing to do?
Please look at the simple case presented by the Word of God:
-
- The Lord Jesus Christ was himself involved many times in theological debates. Just a few examples:
- Pharisees & Seducees, Matthew 16:1-6
- The whole chapter of Mark 12 is really worth our consideration here, where we see the Lord debating:
- Pharisees & Herodians, Mark 12:13-17
- Sadducees, Mark 12:18-27 – note remarkable words of the Lord: “have ye not read in the book of Moses” (v. 26) – all debates are good if they have support of the Scriptures and refer us back to the Word of God.
- with scribes: , Mark 12:28-34
- We are called to be Christ’s followers and as such we ought do as the Lord did.
-
- “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
- “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
- “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:” 1 Peter 2:21
- “And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”
-
- The Bible calls us to be ready to defend our faith. Apologetics was one of the prime methods of evangelism work by early Christians including Apostle Peter himself.
- “[…] and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” 1 Peter 3:15b
- The Lord Jesus Christ was himself involved many times in theological debates. Just a few examples:
I hope the above evidence presents strongly my point, that a Scriptural debate is not only allowed, but indeed absolutely needed and required in these last days. It is a sound unspoiled doctrine based on the Bible alone that we should grow in faith and be fruitful for the glory of the Lord.
