God Requireth That Which Is Past (Ecclesiates 3:1-15)

“That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.” Eccl. 3:15

worldLook at the world today. The pace of changes that happen around us is simply astonishing. I do not only mean the progress of science, technology, human race. Look at how things are different today from yesterday, from 6 months ago, from year ago. At the moment, the world seems to be upside down, everything is turned around.

I watched a video from one year ago, in which a person is challenged by a police officer for wearing a face mask while collecting a child from school. Today it is the very opposite, in many regions and schools you would be challenged for not wearing one. One year ago, tolerance was promoted everywhere, in the name of so called love. Today Poland has a policy called “zero tolerance”. Today you go to schools, but you do not know what will happen tomorrow. Perhaps you are in good health today, but this may change at any time. Even the values of this world are changing and floating depending on who is at power. There are different standards, all is fluid.

The Bible tells us that nothing this is new. “That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been;” All the things that happen on earth, at this very moment, have already happened. God is looking at them from eternity and see our past, our present, our future. He sees all them as past. He knows it all. They were planned and decided long time ago, they were ruled by God. All things are in His power. Is it not comforting that God is in control of everything?

As we read in the passage today, there are different times. All them were appointed by God. There is time to every purpose. There is appointed time to celebrate birth, and to mourn them who pass away. There is time of joy and happiness, and time of cry and difficulties. There is time of war and time of peace.

Today I want to challenge you: How do you find stability in a world like this? What do you hold to? How do you keep peace, if you do not know what is going to happen next week, tomorrow. We cannot even predict what will happen in the next 5 minutes! We know from experience that everything is changing all the time. You cannot behold any stability by clinging to this world.

We can see that the world is very unstable. If you hold to it, you have a very trembling foundation. But let me ask you this: If you could find something that does not change in this world, surely that would give you a peace of mind, wouldn’t it? It would be a real gem if such a “thing” was discovered. Imagine you know something that does not ever change. You know it will always be there. This “thing” would be like your fortress, for you knew it was always there, always real, always true. No matter what would happen in the world, you would always be able to find a shelter in this “thing”.

Such is the kingdom of God. All things on earth change all the time. But there is one who does not ever change. “For I am the LORD, I change NOT.” Mal. 3:6. He can be your refuge, if only you turn to Him. All you have to do is to acknowledge Him in your life and repent. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” Mt. 13:45-46

If you found God in your life, you found a goodly pearl. You will treasure it above anything else, for you know it is an everlasting foundation. It gives you the peace and security, for you know your life is in God’s hands and you know Him.

So what is it that you treasure most in your life? Let me share something very precious with you. The biggest treasure you may receive today freely. It is the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of the LORD. It is the only name under heaven through which you can be saved. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Mt. 1:21

worldLet us read again verse 15 of our scripture in the book of Ecclesiastes: “That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.” Eccl. 3:15. Nothing on earth is new. God requireth that which is past. It is God who gave you your life, He gave you your soul. It is past. Where ever you are today at this very moment, it is already past. And God requires your soul. It will come back to God and you know that. Everyone knows that our days on earth are numbered. You will die one day, for God has appointed it. So I ask you today: Do you know Jesus? Do you know Him? For God will one day require that which is past. What will be your testimony to Him? What is your foundation?

Here in this book you have the Word of God. You have the words of the LORD. It is something tangible, you can take and read today as we do. We have the assurance of the LORD, that it will always be valid and accurate. It is something that did not change for the last centuries with this KJV Bible. It is not something that changed when the monks were scrupulously copying the manuscripts of textus receptus in the dim candlelight. This Holy Bible contains the very words of Lord Jesus spoken in the first century. Having this great confidence in this book, take it and use it! God promised us that He would preserve His Word for us and He did! “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Mt. 24:35

The whole world can and will change, but in this book you will always find truth. There is only one true foundation that will never shake or tremble. It is JESUS. Make Him the foundation of your life. Come to Him… He is the good shepherd who wants to lead you to easy pastures and still waters. Do you hear His voice today?

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” Rev. 22:17

Come. Hear His voice. If you will, take the water of life freely.

Marta
